All India Students’ Association (AISA) national president Neha Bora was released on Saturday morning following her detention by Delhi Police during Friday’s high-tension ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protests. Meanwhile, Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke remains in custody and is scheduled to be produced before the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court.

According to law enforcement authorities, Bora was released after completing formal procedures under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act. In contrast, legal proceedings against Dipke were initiated under preventive provisions—specifically Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Detentions Amid High Security in Connaught Place

Both student and political leaders were intercepted and detained separately ahead of their intended march to Connaught Place’s Central Park: Bora was picked up near Mandi House, while Dipke was detained near Jhandewalan as authorities enforced strict security gridlines across central Delhi to prevent unauthorized gatherings.

Police reports indicate that approximately 150 individuals were taken into preventive custody to maintain public order and ensure unobstructed traffic flow. Heavy deployments—including Rapid Action Force (RAF) units—remained stationed around Central Park and adjoining metro stations.

Allegations of Procedural Lapses

Following her release, Neha Bora criticized the handling of detainees, alleging that police subjected demonstrators to prolonged overnight detentions and bypassed established legal norms.

“Law and order are being flouted in every possible way. Ordinary citizens are treated as if they were hardened criminals,” Bora told news agency ANI.

Bora further claimed that standard procedures governing female detainees were disregarded and that law enforcement initially barred her from consulting legal counsel, keeping her movement obscured across multiple police facilities in the capital for hours before she was finally transferred to the RK Puram police station.

Legal proceedings for remaining detainees and court hearings for Abhijeet Dipke continue to unfold as the capital navigates the aftermath of the intense anti-CEC mobilization.
