In a major breakthrough for wildlife conservation, forest officials arrested six poachers from the Kuldiha Wildlife Sanctuary region, acting on crucial intelligence gathered from hidden trap cameras.
A special team, led by Kuldiha Forest Ranger Soumyaranjan Majhi, conducted a targeted raid in the Babandha and Deunchakhal villages under the Siadimal Panchayat of Nilagiri block. The raid resulted in the apprehension of six individuals and the seizure of a substantial cache of illegal hunting equipment. Confiscated items included eight country-made firearms, bows and arrows, explosives, and various animal snares.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Madan Singh, Guruba Singh, Ghana Singh, Sania Singh, and Debendra Singh, all residents of Babandha village, along with Mangulu Singh from Deunchakhal village.
According to forest department sources, the successful operation was made possible by footage captured on trap cameras strategically placed deep within the forest, which helped identify the suspects tracking wildlife. Cases have been registered against all six accused under the Wildlife Protection Act, and they have been forwarded to the court.
