East Coast Railway (ECoR) has posted a robust financial and operational performance, recording 120.76 million tonnes (MT) of freight loading during the first six months of the 2026-27 financial year.

This marks a 3.4% increase compared to the 116.78 MT recorded during the corresponding period in 2025-26, driven by strategic planning and efficient operations across its divisions.

Among individual divisions, Khordha Road led the cumulative volume with 87.64 MT (a 1.7% growth), while Rayagada Division posted the highest growth rate at 8.8%, touching 19.97 MT. Sambalpur Division also registered a solid 7.3% growth, loading 13.15 MT.

Commodity-wise, coal remained the primary contributor, reaching 71.01 MT with a 3.7% growth. Meanwhile, iron ore witnessed an impressive surge of 14.0%, scaling up to 19.60 MT, alongside steady gains in container and steel loading.

In addition to outbound freight, ECoR demonstrated exceptional efficiency in inbound logistics, registering double-digit growth in unloading. The zone handled 109.66 MT of freight unloading from April to September 2026—a 10% year-on-year jump—with Khordha Road accounting for the highest share of 78.33 MT.
