In a major preemptive move ahead of planned demonstrations at Jantar Mantar and surrounding areas in New Delhi on Saturday, October 10, the Delhi Police has requested the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to consider closing entry and exit gates at 57 key metro stations starting Friday night.
In a formal communication dated October 8, the Joint Commissioner of Police (Transport Range) urged DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar to direct station staff and operations teams to execute necessary security protocols from 9:00 PM on Friday, October 9. The proposed restrictions could extend throughout Saturday, October 10, until law-and-order conditions normalize across the national capital.
Reduced Train Frequencies and Access Restrictions
Citing concerns over potential crowd movements toward high-security and sensitive government zones, police officials advised that train frequencies at identified interchange hubs and transit corridors may also be reduced to prevent unauthorized assemblies.
The security advisory covers critical transport hubs across central, north, south, east, and northeast Delhi.
List of Key Affected Metro Stations
Major transit hubs and interchange stations flagged for potential gate closures and regulated entry include:
- Central & Business Hubs: Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Janpath, Central Secretariat, Mandi House, New Delhi, Supreme Court, and Khan Market.
