Amidst the disruptions and political fervour of the 12-hour Odisha bandh called by the India Bloc, a heartwarming and inspiring incident unfolded in the capital city, showcasing that humanity and compassion can rise above political demonstrations.
The incident took place at the bustling Jaydev Vihar Square, where a large group of Congress and India Bloc workers had staged a strong picket and road blockade. Holding party flags and banners, dozens of workers—including several women activists—sat directly on the thoroughfare, bringing vehicular traffic to a complete standstill.
As the protest was in full swing with slogans echoing through the air, the blaring siren of an approaching ambulance pierced through the noise. Initially, the blockade remained firm as the vehicle drew closer. However, the situation transformed swiftly when senior police personnel deployed at the spot intervened and held immediate discussions with the agitating workers.
Understanding the gravity of the situation, the Congress workers and protesters instantly stood up, cleared the road, and guided the ambulance safely through the blockade. The emergency vehicle passed by without any further delay, smoothly continuing on its life-saving mission.
Speaking about the incident, the protesters emphasised that their agitation was never meant to cause undue hardship to ordinary citizens. “We are not here to trouble the public. Patient care and emergency services will always be our topmost priority,” they stated, adding that even in the midst of a protest, any genuine emergency will always be granted unhindered passage.
Across Bhubaneswar and various other parts of the state, India Bloc workers continued their demonstrations with picketing and rallies, but this momentary display of civic responsibility at Jaydev Vihar remains the talk of the town, winning praise from onlookers and citizens alike.
