The Under-14 boys’ and girls’ rugby competitions of the 69th National School Games Federation of India (SGFI) Championship 2025–26 began today at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
The event continues the prestigious national-level school tournament, showcasing the growing popularity of rugby among students.
More than 300 participants from 14 states joined the Under-14 category, bringing energy and competitive spirit to the championship. Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the School and Mass Education Department, Dr N. Thirumala Naik, welcomed the young athletes and encouraged them to perform with dedication and uphold sportsmanship.
Dr Naik praised the enthusiasm of the budding players and highlighted the importance of such events in identifying and nurturing talent at the grassroots level. Director of Secondary Education Birendra Korkora and Assistant Director (P.E.T) Jyoti Prasad Parida also attended, extending their best wishes and appreciating the smooth organisation of the tournament.
