A high-decibel “People’s Tribunal” examining the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls got underway at Freedom Park on Thursday, featuring popular political commentator Dhruv Rathee, actor-activist Prakash Raj, and Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke.
The day-long event, jointly organized by the CJP, youth groups, and civil society collectives, aims to give voice to citizens from across Karnataka who allege wrongful removal from voter lists.
’Victims of SIR’ Testify Before Tribunal
A key segment of the program involves direct testimonies from affected Kannadiga voters who claim to have been disenfranchised during the SIR exercise.
Addressing supporters ahead of the demonstration, Prakash Raj described the gathering as a vital effort to protect constitutional democratic processes.
”This is not just a question of votes; it is an attempt to protect our democracy and Constitution,” Prakash Raj urged in a social media message, calling on citizens to stand in solidarity with youth and civil society groups.
Symbolic ‘Chappal Protest’ & Nationwide Demand
The People’s Tribunal is scheduled to be followed by a symbolic ‘Chappal Protest’ organized in solidarity with women voters affected by roll revisions, according to CJP leadership.
Demonstrators gathered at Freedom Park voiced strong demands for the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The Bengaluru mobilization marks the first stage of a broader campaign by CJP, with organizers scheduling a follow-up demonstration in New Delhi on October 10 to intensify pressure on the Election Commission.
