In a major festive booster for organisers in the Capital city, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday announced a complete waiver of ground rent for Puja committees conducting public celebrations within the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) jurisdiction.
The decision covers all major festive events during the autumn period, including Durga Puja, Lakshmi Puja, Kali Puja, Ravan Podi, immersion processions (Bhasani), and associated cultural performances.
Exemption Period and Objective
Considering the socio-cultural significance of the festive season and the widespread public enthusiasm across the state, the Chief Minister approved the fee exemption to support local committees in organising smooth celebrations.
The official order confirms that the ground rent exemption will remain effective from October 17 to November 18, 2026.
Call for Eco-Friendly and Peaceful Celebrations
Extending his warm wishes to the public and organizers ahead of the festivities, Chief Minister Majhi appealed to all Puja committees to maintain law, order, and harmony throughout the festive month. He specifically urged organisers to adopt eco-friendly measures to protect the environment while conducting ritualistic and cultural events.
