India produced a stunning batting display to defeat West Indies by eight wickets in the first T20 International, chasing down a target of 172 with remarkable ease in just 14.4 overs.
The star of the evening was captain Shreyas Iyer, who hammered an unbeaten 102 off just 43 deliveries. The right-hander played a breathtaking innings, striking 10 fours and six sixes while maintaining a phenomenal strike rate of over 237.
West Indies, batting first, posted 171 before being bowled out in 19.1 overs. While the visitors managed to put up a competitive total, India’s aggressive approach during the chase left them with little chance of defending it.
India lost opener Abhishek Sharma for 21 and Sanju Samson for 11, but Iyer ensured there were no further setbacks. He found a reliable partner in Ishan Kishan, who remained unbeaten on 37 from 27 balls.
The duo stitched together a match-winning partnership, taking apart the West Indies bowling attack and guiding India home with more than five overs to spare.
For West Indies, Akeal Hosein and Roston Chase claimed one wicket each, but their efforts proved insufficient against India’s relentless batting assault.
The emphatic victory gives India an early advantage in the T20I series, with skipper Shreyas Iyer leading from the front through one of the finest knocks of his T20 international career.
