In a major step toward preparing for the upcoming 2027 Panchayat and Urban Local Body elections, the State Election Commission (SEC) of Odisha held an crucial consultation meeting with representatives of various political parties today at its office conference hall in Bhubaneswar.
Chaired by State Election Commissioner Madhusudan Padhi, the meeting focused on preparing an accurate, transparent, and error-free electoral roll. Representatives from all recognized political parties attended the session to share their feedback, suggestions, and operational concerns.
During the meeting, the SEC informed political delegates that an extensive door-to-door survey will kick off across the state on October 26, 2026. The primary objective of this exercise is to systematically update voter information—adding eligible citizens, eliminating duplicate or deceased electors, and correcting address shifts to maintain full transparency.
To ensure strict oversight during the field verification, Commissioner Padhi urged all political parties to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) at every polling station. Parties have been requested to submit their designated BLA details to the respective Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs)—Block Development Officers (BDOs) in rural areas, Executive Officers in Municipalities/NACs, and Deputy/Assistant Commissioners in Municipal Corporations—by October 15, 2026.
“A precise and transparent voter list is the bedrock of a fair electoral process,” said State Election Commissioner Madhusudan Padhi. “We seek active cooperation from all political parties, local administration, and voters to build a clean and inclusive voter database.”
Political representatives assured the Commission of their full support during the survey process. The meeting concluded with attendance from SEC Secretary Santosh Kumar Dash, Deputy Secretary Durga Charan Murmu, and key leaders from major political parties.
