BJP National Spokesperson Sambit Patra launched a sharp attack against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party, accusing them of spreading falsehoods regarding the Supreme Court’s observations on Form 6 and attempting to fuel anarchy to revive Gandhi’s political career.
Addressing a press conference in the national capital ahead of the INDIA bloc’s planned march to Nirvachan Sadan, Patra alleged that the Opposition was deliberately targeting independent constitutional bodies after facing repeated electoral defeats.
Patra claimed that the campaign against the Election Commission of India (ECI) was part of a larger, long-term strategy by the Congress party.
”A sponsored attempt is being made by opposition parties, especially the Congress, as to how a change of power can be brought about in the country and Rahul Gandhi be made to sit in power just like that. For this, a blow to India’s democracy and constitutional bodies is being hurled in a sponsored manner,” Patra stated.
He further added that after failing to politically establish Gandhi through conventional means, the Congress and its allies had resorted to attacking democratic institutions.
Refuting statements made by the Congress leader following the Supreme Court hearing on voter enrolment forms, Patra highlighted two main points where he alleged Gandhi misled the public:
- Legality of Form 6: Patra stated that the Supreme Court had not declared Form 6 illegal, but rather noted the petition’s allegations regarding modifications and agreed to examine the matter.
- ECI Unanimity: The BJP spokesperson dismissed claims that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise was passed without consensus, citing the ECI’s clarification that the order regarding Bihar received unanimous approval from all three Election Commissioners.
