In alignment with the ongoing nationwide ‘Swachhata Hi Seva – 2026’ campaign, the Government of Odisha is set to conduct a comprehensive statewide cleanliness and sanitation drive on Tuesday, October 6.
The initiative aims to embed hygiene as an enduring habit across all government offices and public institutions while fostering a spirit of collective civic responsibility.
Running from September 17 to October 17, 2026, the national campaign centers on the theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat” (Participation in Cleanliness, Clean India, Developed India). Through this month-long campaign, the state government seeks to heighten public awareness around environmental hygiene while driving active, structured involvement from both government institutions and local communities.
To guarantee the success of the October 6 mobilization, the Odisha Government has issued strict directives to senior leadership—including Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Commissioners-cum-Secretaries, and District Collectors—to personally lead sanitation activities within their respective jurisdictions.
The coverage of the drive spans:
- State government secretariats and department headquarters
- District-level administration offices
- Subordinate government bodies and field units
- Public institution complexes across all 30 districts
A key pillar of tomorrow’s drive is compulsory active participation through Shramdaan (voluntary labor). Officers and staff across all ranks will spend designated hours cleaning and reorganizing their workplace environments, reinforcing individual accountability for public hygiene.
The state government emphasized that cleanliness must not remain a one-day ceremonial affair, but rather transform into a permanent societal value. The administration extended a warm appeal to all officials, staff members, and civil society stakeholders to participate enthusiastically, hailing the drive as a crucial milestone toward building a cleaner, healthier, and fully developed Odisha.
