Marking a historic milestone for Odia cinema, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday inaugurated the redeveloped, state-of-the-art Kalinga Studio complex in Bhubaneswar.
Designed as a self-sustaining ecosystem for modern film production, the upgraded facility aims to meet world-class industry standards while preserving the rich cinematic heritage of Odisha.
In addition to the studio floors, the Chief Minister dedicated a specialized archival facility and film museum within the premises. The museum will preserve vintage Odia films, classic posters, historical photographs, and rare documents, offering visitors and researchers a glimpse into the glorious evolution of the state’s film industry.
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Majhi emphasized that local filmmakers will no longer need to rely on technical facilities in other states.
“This world-class infrastructure equips our creative industry with everything from pre-production to post-production under one roof. I call upon our youth to leverage these facilities to tell original stories grounded in Odisha’s rich folklore, history, and unique culture,” said CM Majhi.
A Complete Digital & Production Ecosystem
Originally established in 1980, Kalinga Studio played a central role during the golden era of Odia cinema. However, natural disasters and rapid technological shifts gradually necessitated a complete overhaul.
The newly transformed complex offers a comprehensive suite of indoor shooting sets, chroma floors, snow houses, sound recording rooms, dubbing suites, editing suites, and high-end post-production facilities.
Minister for Industries, Skill Development, and Technical Education, Sampad Chandra Swain, highlighted the broader economic impact of the project. He noted that film production functions as a large-scale economic driver, generating skilled jobs across acting, cinematography, animation, sound design, and creative writing.
As part of the ceremonies, Chief Minister Majhi also launched the new official portal for the Odisha Film Development Corporation (OFDC).
The inaugural event was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Ekamra MLA Babu Singh, Digapahandi MLA Siddhanta Mahapatra, Korei MLA Akash Das Nayak, Additional Chief Secretary (Industries) Hemant Sharma, and Managing Director of Kalinga Studio Surendra Kumar Panda.
