Seven Delhi Police personnel have been suspended after failing to detect a dummy explosive during a mock drill at the historic Red Fort.
According to sources, operatives from the Special Cell, posing as civilians, managed to infiltrate the premises with a dummy bomb—exposing a glaring lapse in surveillance protocols. The drill, designed to test alertness and response mechanisms, was part of the broader security build-up for the August 15 celebrations, where the Prime Minister traditionally addresses the nation.
Officials confirmed that all involved personnel were suspended for negligence following the oversight. The Red Fort has been fortified with multilayered security, including drone surveillance, sniper units, and high-alert monitoring in anticipation of the national event.
This incident follows another concerning development: the detention of five Bangladeshi nationals who attempted unauthorised entry into the Red Fort earlier in the week. Their identities and motives are currently under investigation.
