A passenger bus veers off the Sherani-Zhob highway and plunges into a deep ravine near the Danasar area in Balochistan on Friday.
The accident kills at least 40 people and injures eight others.
Rescue teams recover 40 bodies from the crash site. Medical Emergency Response Centre teams shift the eight injured passengers to the Trauma Centre in Zhob for treatment.
Authorities launch a large-scale rescue operation immediately after the accident. Six ambulances, 12 emergency medical technicians and 10 light transport vehicles reach the site. Rescue personnel from neighbouring Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also join the operation.
Sherani Deputy Commissioner Hazrat Wali Kakar says the bus left Quetta with 36 passengers. Additional travellers board the coach en route after their own bus breaks down. The overcrowded coach causes the deadly crash.
District administration officials in Sherani and local rescue teams respond quickly. They begin shifting the injured to nearby hospitals and continue efforts to recover and transport the bodies of those killed.
The bus was travelling from Quetta to Islamabad when the accident occurred. Authorities launch an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.
