A three-year-old girl fell into a 700-feet deep borewell on Monday while she was playing outside her house in Rajasthan’s Kotputli district.
Authorities immediately launched a rescue operation upon receiving the information.
According to officials, the girl, identified as Chetna, initially got stuck at a depth of 15 feet but later slipped further down. A rescue team provided oxygen to her through a pipe and inserted a camera into the borewell to monitor her condition.
Kotputli Sub-Divisional Magistrate Brijesh Chaudhary said, “The administration has started a rescue operation with all available resources. A camera has been installed to track her movements, and oxygen is being supplied through a pipe”.
Kavya, Chetna’s elder sister, witnessed her sibling’s fall and promptly alerted the family. Acting swiftly, the family informed the police, who, along with the local administration, arrived at the scene to initiate a rescue operation.
Excavation near the borewell has started with the help of a JCB machine. Efforts are also being made to supply food to the trapped child.
The family said that the borewell had been left open and they were planning to cover it later in the day. The pipe had been removed in preparation, but before the work could begin, the child fell in.
At the time of the incident, family members were inside the house.
Additional Superintendent of Police in Kotputli, Vaibhav Sharma, said, “The borewell is located within the premises of the house. Both National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been called in for the rescue”.
Police have barricaded the area and are ensuring safety at the site
