The Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) on Wednesday evacuated 230 students stranded for four days at the Government Residential School in Kulsahi, Pattamundai block of Kendrapada district.
The students — 140 boys and 90 girls — had been trapped after floodwaters from a nearby river entered the hostel’s ground floor on Saturday. Strong currents delayed immediate evacuation, but worsening conditions forced the administration to step up efforts.
Acting on instructions from the district authorities, ODRAF teams used boats to safely transport the children to higher ground. A medical team had already examined the students on Tuesday, ensuring their health before the evacuation.
