India’s Pooja Singh clinched the gold medal in the women’s high jump event at the Asian Athletics Championships 2025.
The 18-year-old star delivered a personal best effort of 1.89m, marking India’s first victory in this category since 2000.
Pooja faced tough competition, but her resilience shone through as she overcame early setbacks and soared beyond expectations. Uzbekistan’s Safina Sadullaeva secured silver with a 1.86m jump, while Kazakhstan’s Yelizaveta earned bronze.
Adding to India’s triumph, Gulveer Singh dominated the men’s 5,000m race, securing his second gold medal of the championships after winning the 10,000m event earlier. His record-breaking run further cemented India’s success at the meet.
With a total of 18 medals, India strengthened its standing in the championship, trailing only China on the medal table.
