Odisha police seized 167 kg of ganja and arrested two suspects in Sonepur after a dramatic chase and warehouse raid.
Initially, police received a tip-off about a white Indigo ECS car transporting ganja. Consequently, a Sonepur police team led by SI Deepti Ranjan Digal began tracking the vehicle. As the car sped through Haradakhol village toward Buromunda, officers followed it to a warehouse owned by Gulu Sahu. There, they discovered 51.2 kg of ganja packed in two sacks.
Subsequently, police arrested the driver, Bishikeshan Bhoi (45) from Kantamal, Boudh district, and Gaurishankar Mallik (40) from Buromunda. The car, bearing registration OD31-5955, was seized. Both suspects were booked under NDPS Act sections 20(b)(ii)C/25/29 and produced in court.
Later, investigators searched Mallik’s residence, located opposite the warehouse. In the presence of witnesses and a magistrate, police recovered an additional 116 kg of ganja from a locked room.
As a result, authorities registered a second case under NDPS Act section 20(b)(ii)C/29. Gulu Sahu, believed to be the mastermind behind the ganja trafficking operation, remains at large.
Overall, this ganja seizure in Odisha underscores the growing challenge of drug trafficking in rural regions. Police continue their search for Sahu and aim to dismantle the entire network.
