Fifteen students from Ravenshaw University’s East Hostel landed in SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, after suffering from vomiting and diarrhoea linked to suspected food poisoning.
The incident unfolded late Tuesday night when several hostel inmates complained of loose motion and nausea. Responding swiftly, hostel authorities arranged medical transport and ensured all affected students reached SCB Hospital. Doctors confirmed their condition as stable and placed them under observation.
Hospital sources attributed the symptoms to food poisoning, likely caused by contaminated meals served at the hostel. Medical teams conducted initial tests and administered treatment. The students are expected to recover soon.
Following the outbreak, university officials launched an internal investigation to identify the source of contamination. They temporarily shut down the hostel kitchen and sent food samples for lab analysis. In addition, authorities began reviewing hygiene standards and food handling procedures.
The incident sparked concern among students and parents regarding hostel safety and food quality. Ravenshaw University pledged to implement corrective measures to prevent future occurrences and restore confidence in campus facilities.
Local health officials inspected the hostel premises and recommended immediate sanitation. They also ordered a thorough check of water sources. The university administration is now working closely with the health department to ensure a comprehensive inquiry.
