A 14-year-old boy allegedly murdered a 5-year-old child in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district to avenge his father’s humiliation.
The incident occurred in Krushnaguda village under Papadahandi police limits. The victim, Majesh Mahuria, went missing on Friday morning. His family searched nearby homes and eventually found his lifeless body inside an abandoned house near the accused’s residence. The accused, also a minor, was hiding inside and initially denied any involvement.
Police arrived at the scene, broke open the door, and detained the teen. A scientific team began investigating the crime scene. Preliminary findings suggest the murder was an act of revenge. Days earlier, Majesh’s father, Shiba Mahuria, had lost ₹4,000, allegedly taken by the accused. A village meeting followed, escalating tensions between the families.
The teen reportedly acted out of anger over the public humiliation his family faced. After committing the crime, he fled and hid in his home until police apprehended him.
The case, involving both victim and accused as minors, will be investigated under juvenile justice laws. Papadahandi IIC Deepak Jena confirmed that all procedures will follow juvenile guidelines.
This tragic case of a teen killing a child in Odisha has shocked the local community and raised concerns about rising juvenile violence.
