Panic swept across the Utkal University campus in Bani Vihar after a sudden outbreak of diarrhoea and vomiting afflicted ten female students staying at Ladies Hostel No. 7.
The health scare began when several boarders reported severe stomach illness and continuous vomiting over a short period. As the condition of the affected boarders deteriorated, university administration and local authorities were immediately alerted. One student whose condition worsened was rushed to a nearby private hospital for urgent medical treatment, while others are currently receiving medical attention and monitoring.
Upon receiving news of the outbreak, a public health team from the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) reached the campus to assess the situation. Suspecting water contamination as the primary cause of the sudden ailment, officials promptly collected water samples from the hostel’s drinking taps and storage tanks for laboratory analysis.
University authorities have initiated precautionary measures across the premises to prevent further spread of the infection among other campus residents. Students have been advised to boil drinking water and maintain strict hygiene while results from the water testing are awaited. Further investigations by public health officials are underway to pinpoint the exact source of contamination.
