Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, in connection with a money laundering investigation linked to the online betting platform 1xBet. Singh, aged 43, arrived at the ED’s central Delhi office around noon and recorded his statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
This questioning is part of a broader probe into 1xBet, a Curacao-registered bookmaker with 18 years in the betting industry, which is alleged to have defrauded users of crores of rupees and evaded substantial taxes in India. The ED is investigating how celebrities were approached for endorsements, the intermediaries involved, payment modes, and whether they were aware that online betting is illegal in India. Celebrities have been asked to submit contracts, emails, and other documentation related to 1xBet.
Prior to Singh, former cricketer Robin Uthappa was questioned for over eight hours on Monday, September 22, 2025. Actor Sonu Sood is scheduled to appear before the ED on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.
The ED’s investigation is part of a wider crackdown on illegal online betting platforms in India. The government has recently passed legislation to ban real-money online gaming, and the ED has initiated targeted strategies to investigate financial crimes arising from this sector.
