A tragic incident unfolded at the scenic Garjanakhol waterfall in Telkoi, located on the border of Angul district, where a youth was swept away by a powerful current while his two friends watched helplessly.
The youth has been identified as Lipun Behera. He was bathing with two companions when he ventured closer to the waterfall’s edge. Suddenly, he lost balance and was pulled into the strong stream. Despite desperate attempts to save him, the force of the water proved too strong.
Local authorities, including the Bansapal Fire Brigade, have launched an intensive search operation. Rescue teams are scouring the area, but as of now, Lipun remains missing. The incident has cast a shadow over the region, which is popular among tourists and locals for its natural beauty.
Officials have urged visitors to exercise caution near waterfalls, especially during monsoon season when water levels and currents are unpredictable.
