In a harrowing incident in Bhadrak district’s Basudevpur area, a youth named Jagabandhu Palai sustained severe burns after an unidentified assailant threw acid on him while he was sleeping at his residence in Ramachandrapur village under Laxmidaspur panchayat.
The attack occurred around 3 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025.
Jagabandhu’s family members were alerted by his screams and immediately rushed him to the Basudevpur Community Health Centre. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to a hospital in Bhubaneswar for advanced treatment.
Local law enforcement, including officers from the Naikanidihi police station, have initiated an investigation to identify the perpetrator and determine the motive behind the attack. The Bhadrak Sadar Sub-divisional Police Officer has also visited the scene to assess the situation.
Preliminary reports suggest that the assailant targeted Jagabandhu through a window while he was asleep and fled immediately after committing the crime.
The community is in shock over the incident, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
