Bhubaneswar: Police on Friday, arrested a youth for allegedly duping people on the pretext of providing them with jobs. While his associate managed to escape.
The arrested accused has been identified as Saroj Kumar Jena from Katapur in Puri district.
According to available information, the accused used to post fake job offering advertisements along with his female associate.
Spotting one such advertisement, Satyaranjan Jena contacted Saroj. Later, Saroj demanded 6.43 lakhs from him on the pretext of recruiting him for a Railway job. He also provides an offer letter to him. Later, Gaining knowledge that the letter was fake, Satyaranjan lodged a complaint with the Dhauli police station.
Similarly, Babita Biswal from Puri district was duped by Saroj of Rs 30,000 from her assuring a railway job. With no other options left, she lodged a complaint against Saroj.
On the basis of the two complaints, police launched a probe and arrested Saroj on Friday, while his associate managed to escape. A manhunt has been launched to nab the absconding woman, police said.
