A tragic incident occurred in Birat Katak village under Jagannathpur panchayat of Raghunathpur block, Jagatsinghpur district, when a snapped 11 kV electricity wire fell on a youth, leading to his death.
According to reports, around 9 am on Thursday, Sanjib Kumar Pradhan (38), son of Kunjabihari Pradhan of Kuamang village (Birat Katak), went to inspect water in a paddy field. While near the field, the overhead 11 kV wire suddenly snapped and fell on him, killing him instantly.
Villagers immediately informed Raghunathpur police, who reached the spot, seized the body, and began an investigation. Personnel from the Fire Services Department also attended the site. However, electricity department officials had not yet arrived at the scene when the report was filed.
Locals pointed out that the 11 kV line comes under the Manda Sahi electricity section of Jagatsinghpur district. They alleged that the wire had been hanging dangerously for some time, posing a serious threat to public safety.
Residents demanded that authorities replace the unsafe overhead line with a cable line to prevent further loss of life.
