Bolangir: A youth sustained critical injuries after being attacked with sharp weapons allegedly by the members of a rival gang at Barpalipada in Bolangir on Tuesday.
The injured youth has been identified as Raj Jena of Hatapadapada village. He has been admitted to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
According to sources, Raj, who belongs to the self-declared ‘Red Lion’ Group, was attacked with sharp weapons by six youths of ‘Black Tiger’ Group today near Barpalipada following which he sustained head injuries. He was then rescued by family members and admitted to the hospital.
Sources said the murderous attack was the fall out of a past enmity between the two groups. A few days ago a man was abducted from Gopabandhu Nagar area following which the rival gang targeted Raj to vent their anger.
Reportedly, the family members of Raj have lodged a written complaint in this regard and police have started an investigation. However, no arrests have been made till the last reports came in.
On the other hand, alert citizens have alleged that Bolangir town has become an open battleground for anti-social gangs who assail each other with swords on the city roads, in broad daylight, creating panic among the public and strict police action is needed to curb the menace in order to create a safe surrounding.
