Jharusugda: A youth has been arrested today on charges of killing his father with a spade at Banjari Harijanpada under Badamal police station limits in Jharsuguda district.
The accused, identified as Manik Chandra Behera, has been arrested and forwarded to the court for killing his father, Laxman Behera (52), with a spade which has also been seized, the police said.
According to reports, Manik arrived home in an inebriated condition last night and started hurling abuses on his wife. When his father Laxman intervened and tied to stop him from making further nuisance, Manik attacked him repeatedly with a spade.
Laxman sustained severe injuries on his neck, belly and hands before collapsing on the floor. Later, family members rushed him to the District Headquarters Hospital but he passed away while undergoing treatment today.
On the basis of a complaint filed by the deceased man’s elder brother Birendra Behera, Badamal police registered a case (11/21) and handed over the body to the family members after post-mortem.
The accused was produced before a local court here and sent to judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected, the police added.
