A 28-year-old man was allegedly tied and beaten to death with wooden planks in Nayak Sahi of Patna police limits in Keonjhar district.

The victim has been identified as Gangadhar Nayak.

According to initial reports, the deceased was the son of Bhakta Bandhu Nayak, a resident of the same village.

Sources reveal that Gangadhar had visited Jhapa Sahi on Wednesday evening when, due to some reasons, he was confronted near Dinabandhu Patra’s house. There, Dinabandhu’s wife and son allegedly tied Gangadhar and mercilessly beat him. Injured and shaken, Gangadhar returned home and went to bed after dinner.

Tragedy struck the following morning when Gangadhar failed to wake up. His father rushed to the Patna police station to lodge a formal complaint. Responding swiftly, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Bijay Krushna Mahapatra, IIC Manas Kumar Mahakud, SI Laxman Majhi, ASI Saroj Kumar Sethy, and a scientific team from Kendujhar reached the site to begin the investigation.

Two accused—Dinabandhu and his wife—have been detained for interrogation, while their son and daughter-in-law remain absconding. Authorities confirmed that the cause of death will be determined post-mortem and assured that efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects.

Police have vowed swift action. “The post-mortem will clarify the exact cause of death. The fugitives will be nabbed soon,” stated IIC Manas Kumar Mahakud.

The incident has sparked widespread concern in the region as locals demand justice and clarity on what led to the fatal assault.
