The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued a yellow warning for eight districts in Odisha today, citing the possibility of heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms.
The affected districts include Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), these regions may experience intense showers along with thunder and lightning activity. Gusty winds and electrical disturbances are also expected, prompting authorities to advise residents to remain indoors and avoid open areas during storm conditions.
The warning comes as part of a broader weather alert across the state, with monsoon activity intensifying due to upper air cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal. District administrations have been placed on high alert to respond to any emergencies arising from flash floods or storm damage.
