A heart-wrenching motorcycle accident near Dhobaninala Chhak in Badamba block, Cuttack, Odisha, claimed the life of a woman, identified as Laki Behera, on the auspicious day of Raksha Bandhan.
The tragic incident occurred as Laki, along with her husband, Santosh Behera from Jagannathpur village in Badabarasingh panchayat, was returning home after tying a rakhi to her brother in Bindanima village under Tigiria police station limits.
According to reports, the couple were riding a motorcycle when three youths from the Kakahandi area under Athagarh police station, allegedly riding recklessly, collided head-on with them near Dhobaninala Chhak. As a result, the woman died at the scene, while her husband and the three youths sustained injuries. The injured were rushed to Maniabandha CHC.
Preliminary police investigations suggest that the youths may have been under the influence of alcohol, contributing to their reckless driving. The accident sparked tension in the area, prompting police from both Maniabandha and Badamba stations to intervene and restore calm.
Authorities have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the collision and to hold those responsible accountable.
