The body of Inspector (IIC) Beauty Mohanty was recovered in a hanging position from her official quarters inside the Chauliaganj Police Station premises.
The exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained. After examining the scene, the body was seized and sent for post-mortem at SCB Medical College and Hospital.
According to available information, Inspector Beauty Mohanty was performing her duties at the police station till around 9 PM on Friday. She later felt unwell and went to her quarters on the upper floor of the station. On Saturday morning, she did not attend the routine briefing roll call. After waiting for a long time, police personnel went to her quarters around 10 AM to call her. When there was no response from inside the room, suspicion arose.
The matter was immediately informed to Zone ACP Sudhanshu Jena. In the presence of the ACP, the door was broken open, and the IIC’s body was found hanging. The police have sealed the room.
Upon receiving the news, DCP Khilari Rishikesh, along with the deceased IIC’s family members, reached the spot. A scientific team collected evidence from the scene.
Inspector Beauty Mohanty had taken charge at Chauliaganj Police Station a few months ago. Prior to this, she had served as Inspector at Kataka Women’s Police Station, Bhubaneswar Pahal Police Station, and Kataka Markatnagar Police Station. She is survived by a son. Recently, she had celebrated her son’s birthday at her father’s house in the Kataka Sadar police station area. Her businessman husband lives outside Kataka.
However, the exact reason behind the suspected suicide is not yet known. Some colleagues said that Inspector Beauty Mohanty was suffering from severe migraine (sinus-related headache). She used to take medicines for the headache regularly. Due to excessive work pressure, her migraine would often worsen. It is learnt that she had also applied to the DCP for a transfer from Chauliaganj Police Station due to her health issues.
On the other hand, suspicion has also arisen regarding possible family disputes.
