A woman in Bayabanapur village under Bhandaripokhari police limits in Bhadrak accused her son and daughter-in-law of selling their one-month-old baby girl for money.

Sabitri Das stated that the couple took the infant to Bhandaripokhari hospital but returned home without her. When she asked about the child, they abused her instead of giving a clear answer. She grew suspicious and filed a complaint at the local police station.

Police responded quickly and brought the son, daughter-in-law, and Sabitri to the station for questioning. Sabitri alleged that her granddaughter was sold for ₹20,000, possibly to someone in the Cuttack area. She added that her daughter-in-law’s mother confirmed the sale.

Villagers also raised doubts about the disappearance. Some women claimed that the daughter-in-law’s mother suggested the baby was not sold but given away. Despite these conflicting accounts, Sabitri maintained that the child was sold for money.

She recalled that before leaving home, her daughter-in-law asked her son to let her hold the baby one last time. The couple then left, saying they were taking the infant to a doctor. They returned in the evening without the child, which deepened suspicion.

Police continue their investigation and have intensified efforts to trace the missing baby. The case has sparked widespread concern in Bayabanapur village, with residents demanding answers and accountability. As of now, no trace of the baby has been found.
