In a terrifying incident that could have ended in tragedy, an entire family of five from a remote village in Odisha’s Kalahandi district fell seriously ill after consuming poisonous wild mushrooms on Saturday evening.
The victims — 40-year-old Nila Majhi, his 35-year-old wife Laxmi Majhi, and their three minor children — belong to Phukera village under Bijepur Panchayat in Lanjigada block.
According to local reports, the family had foraged wild mushrooms from nearby forests, cooked them at home, and eaten the meal around 7 PM. Within a short time, all five members began suffering from severe vomiting, intense stomach pain, and dizziness.
Panicked family members immediately arranged an auto and rushed the victims to the Kalyansinghpur Community Health Centre. Doctors there provided immediate primary treatment. Health officials have confirmed that all five patients are now in stable condition.
The incident once again highlights the serious risks of consuming unidentified wild mushrooms, especially during the monsoon season when such cases spike in rural Odisha.
