Two women sustained serious injuries after a wild boar attacked them in Sirigidi village under Khariar Road Range, Nuapada district, on April 5.
According to reports, Purnima Majhi (25) and Samaleshwari Rout (22) went to the nearby forest early in the morning to collect mahua flowers. They suddenly encountered a wild boar. The animal attacked both women, injuring their right legs. Fellow villagers rushed to the spot, forcing the boar back into the forest.
Locals rescued the injured women and admitted them to Nuapada District Headquarters Hospital. Doctors confirmed that both women require surgery on their legs. Their treatment is currently underway.
Witnesses said mahua collectors in the area often face threats from wild animals. The incident has sparked concern among villagers, who demanded immediate government assistance and advanced medical care for the victims.
Forest officials from Khariar Road Range began an investigation into the attack. Villagers urged authorities to provide compensation and ensure safety measures for people who depend on forest produce for their livelihood.
