A quarrel over alcohol in a Kendujhar village has ended in an unnatural death. Padmanabh Naik, 56, of Bholbeda under Ghatagaon police station, died after allegedly consuming pesticide following an argument with his wife.
According to police and family accounts, Naik wanted to drink on Friday night. His wife refused to allow it. Relatives say he became agitated after the confrontation and later ingested pesticide. His condition deteriorated quickly.
Family members first rushed him to Patana Hospital. Doctors there found his condition critical and advised transfer to the Kendujhar District Headquarters Hospital. However, he succumbed on the way.
Ghatagaon police have registered unnatural death case No. 55/2026. Dhenkikot police beat officer Trinath Naik went to Patna and arranged a post-mortem examination. Further inquiry will examine the sequence of events, the family dispute, and the circumstances of the death.
The case again highlights how liquor-related domestic conflict in rural Odisha can turn deadly within hours. The investigation remains at the unnatural-death stage pending autopsy findings and witness statements.
