After years of speculation and mixed expectations, Welcome to the Jungle finally arrives in theatres with Akshay Kumar returning to the popular comedy franchise.
Directed by Ahmed Khan and based on a script by the late Neeraj Vora, the film delivers plenty of laughs, memorable performances and nostalgic moments, even if it loses momentum in its final act.
Story
The story revolves around shady businessman Sinha (Zakir Hussain), who wants to launder ₹2,000 crore of black money by producing a film designed to fail at the box office.
To execute the bizarre plan, he recruits struggling filmmaker Das (Paresh Rawal), who ropes in washed-up action star Rajiv (Akshay Kumar) for an unlikely comeback.
Soon, the chaos expands with the arrival of Yeda Anna (Suniel Shetty), Romeo (Arshad Warsi), Nadia (Disha Patani), Jenny (Jacqueline Fernandez) and several eccentric characters.
Things spiral into complete madness when the film crew reaches the village of Azadpur. The villagers mistake them for Indian Army officers sent to rescue them from dreaded terrorist Zatara (Jackie Shroff), leading to a series of hilarious misunderstandings.
Performances
Akshay Kumar once again proves why he remains one of Bollywood’s finest comedy actors. His effortless comic timing anchors the film and keeps the entertainment flowing.
However, the biggest surprises come from Raveena Tandon and Farida Jalal, whose performances steal several scenes. Their impeccable timing and natural screen presence add freshness to the story.
Paresh Rawal, Suniel Shetty and Arshad Warsi deliver dependable performances, while Jackie Shroff enjoys playing the over-the-top antagonist.
The supporting cast, despite its enormous size, contributes to the film’s energetic pace.
Direction
Director Ahmed Khan successfully captures the chaotic spirit of the original Welcome while introducing new situations and characters.
