Malkangiri: A wanted Maoist who was carrying a reward of Rs 2 lakh on his head surrendered before the police in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Wednesday.
Mukesh Karasa, a Maoist, has surrendered to Charan Singh Meena, the DIGP, Southern Western range.
Prior to his surrender, Mukesh was engaged in several violent confrontations with the police, including shootings near the villages of Jiram, Tipuram, and Damawaram along the Chhattisgarh border. He became a member of the Hidma Battalion Maoist group in 2023.
The police have stated that Mukesh could no longer tolerate the Maoists’ violent actions, the killing of innocents, hindrances to development, and torture, due to which he left the organisation and surrendered before the police.
DIGP Meena announced that Mukesh will be given the said reward of Rs 2 lakh and the benefits of the government’s surrender policy.
He further said that those who are involved in the Maoist group’s violent acts must abandon violence and integrate into society’s mainstream and the state’s developmental initiatives. Otherwise, police operations would be escalated, he warned. Malkangiri SP Nitesh Wadhwani and other officers were also on the occasion.
