Malkangiri police on Sunday arrested five persons for allegedly issuing death threats to people to extract money by posing as Maoists.
“A team of Chitrakonda police station arrested Jagu Hantal, Mano Pangi, M Narayan, Binod Jena, & Umakanta Madhavi and seized a gun, Maoist letter, & three mobile phones from them. All were forwarded to the court today,” informed Malkangiri DSP Laxmidhar Swain.
According to the police official, Bhaktaram Sisa, Naib Sarpanch of Badapada Panchayat filed a complaint at Chitrakonda police station about the Maoist threat.
Three of the five accused are locals of Badapada and two are from Malkangiri. These five people, posing as Maoists, used to extort money from people, by threatening to kill them in the Praja Court.
Recently, they threatened to kill the Naib Sarpanch and a journalist in the Praja Court.
