Ahmedabad: After thrashing West Indies with their splendid bowling attack, Indian captain Rohit Sharma said that winning the series is a good feeling without a doubt.
“There were some challenges that we had to face today. That partnership between KL and Surya is the maturity we need. We got to a respectable total, which was important,” said India captain Rohit Sharma in the post-match presentation ceremony after India beat West Indies in the second ODI in Ahmedabad.
“With the ball we were outstanding. The entire unit came together and performed together as a unit. It is important for these guys (middle-order) to bat in that kind of situation. That is when you can judge them,” Rohit added.
The skipper praised the efforts of the bowling unit and singled out Prasidh Krishna for his match-winning spell of 9-3-12-4.
“We want to try a few things with the long term in mind so we don’t mind if we lose the odd game in the process. I was a little surprised to not see the dew but again I am not taking anything away from the bowling unit. I have not seen that kind of spell in a long long time in India. To bounce out batsmen in India is not easy. He bowled with skill, he bowled with pace. All in all a great bowling effort,” said Rohit.
The 34-year-old further heaped praise on KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Hooda for their batting efforts.
“Today’s knock will give Surya a lot of confidence. The pitch was not easy. So he batted and did what the team wanted and not what he wanted to do. KL too, and that little innings from Hooda in the end,” added Rohit.
The skipper explained the decision to open with Rishabh Pant.
“I have been asked to do different things, so this was different. People will be happy seeing Rishabh open then, but yeah it is not permanent. We will get Shikhar back in the next game, and he needs some game time. It is not always the results,” he said.
