Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla, has undertaken a bold initiative to tackle indiscipline on campus.
In an unprecedented disciplinary drive, about 100 students have been penalised for various instances of misconduct, poor attendance, and breaches of university regulations.
After a comprehensive review of individual cases by the Disciplinary Committee, the penalties range from monetary fines of ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 to grade reductions. Students involved are also barred from participating in university sports tournaments and academic recognitions like medals and awards.
University officials emphasise that these measures are not solely punitive. “Our goal is reformative—to foster a disciplined and academically driven campus culture while instilling the values of respect and responsibility,” stated a representative.
The university’s decision has sent a clear message that maintaining discipline and respect for the institution’s ethos is non-negotiable, reflecting VSSUT’s commitment to preserving a high standard of academic and cultural integrity.
