Vishal Dadlani Takes Subtle Dig at Dhurandhar 2 Over Demonetisation Angle: ‘Facts Are Facts’

Vishal Dadlani has seemingly taken a subtle dig at Dhurandhar 2, the recently released spy thriller starring Ranveer Singh, over its depiction of the 2016 demonetisation move.

Taking to Instagram Stories, Dadlani shared posts that questioned narratives around demonetisation, emphasizing that while films are meant for entertainment, factual accuracy should not be overlooked. Without directly naming the film, he wrote, “A film is just entertainment. Facts are facts no matter what,” and later added, “Watch films for fun, but get your information from better sources.”

The comments are widely seen as a reference to the film’s second half, which reimagines the demonetisation announcement by Narendra Modi on November 8, 2016, as a strategic operation aimed at disrupting terror funding networks. In the film, this fictionalised narrative is presented as a key turning point in its storyline.

Dadlani also shared posts highlighting analyses that questioned the long-term impact of demonetisation on black money and terror activities, suggesting that the outcomes were mixed and subject to debate. His remarks have sparked discussions online, with audiences divided between supporting artistic liberty and advocating for factual representation in films inspired by real events.

Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar 2 has opened to strong box office numbers since its release on March 19 and continues to perform well commercially. The film explores the backstory of its protagonist, an Indian spy navigating complex missions tied to national security.

Despite the criticism, the film has received praise for its scale, performances, and gripping narrative, though debates around its political themes continue to generate conversation across social media platforms.
