Cricket icon Virat Kohli has candidly spoken about the immense pressure of captaincy that led him to relinquish leadership roles for Team India and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
In a recent interview, Kohli revealed that between 2016 and 2019, the burden of expectations began affecting his mental well-being, prompting his decision to step down.
Kohli admitted that he even considered leaving RCB during that challenging period, but ultimately chose to stay due to the deep-rooted connection and mutual respect he shared with the franchise. “The relationship I’ve built here is more valuable, and so is the mutual respect,” he explained.
Having captained Team India for nearly a decade, Kohli faced constant scrutiny both on and off the field. His decision to step away from leadership roles was driven by his desire to rediscover his love for the game, free from the pressures of captaincy.
Kohli’s candid revelations provide insight into the emotional toll of leadership in professional sports and highlight the importance of prioritising mental well-being.
