Angul: Odisha Vigilance sleuths arrested a Sarpanch in Angul district on Tuesday for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.
The accused has been identified as Mamali Samal, Sarapanch of Susuba G.P. under Kaniha Block, Dist. Angul.
Mamali Samal along with her husband Sisira Samal has been apprehended by Odisha Vigilance for demand and acceptance of a bribe of Rs.20,000 from a beneficiary (Complainant) for facilitating the release of the pending wage bill of labourers engaged in the digging of his pond under MGNREGS project.
On the direction of Manali Samal and her husband Sisira Samal, while accepting the bribe amount of Rs.20,000 from the complainant, were nabbed today by the team of Odisha Vigilance in the office chamber of PEO, Susuba G.P in the presence of Samal. The entire bribe money has been recovered from them and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations of Samal from the DA angle.
In this connection, Cuttack Vigilance P.S. case No.18 dtd.22.07.2024 U/s-7/12 PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered. The investigation is in progress against both the accused persons namely Mamali Samal, Sarapanch, and her husband Sisira Samal.
