Odisha is set to commemorate Netaji Jayanti on Friday as Parakram Diwas, with elaborate arrangements underway in Cuttack to honour the legacy of freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. The Vice-President of India will attend the central celebrations at Netaji’s birthplace, Janakinath Bhawan.
The historic Janakinath Bhawan and the adjoining Netaji Birthplace Museum at Odia Bazaar have been extensively decorated for the occasion. Preparations across the entire complex, including galleries and garden areas, are in their final stages, creating a dignified setting for the commemorative programmes.
Vice-President to Inaugurate New Facilities
Cuttack Collector Duttatreya Bhaosaheb Shinde confirmed the Vice-President’s participation in the Parakram Diwas events. As part of the celebrations, the Vice-President will inaugurate several new initiatives, including a gallery at the philately exhibition, an exhibition curated by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) under the Ministry of Culture at the Interpretation Centre, and the newly constructed Sanskruti Bhawan.
Additionally, a Postal Gallery and a district-level cultural building named after Netaji will be inaugurated. The event will be attended by several prominent dignitaries, including Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan, Odisha Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati, and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, underscoring the national and state-level significance of the occasion.
Cultural Activities and Public Access
Artists and contributors involved in the preparations expressed pride in being part of the tribute to Netaji. Sculptor Laxmidhar Rana said the renovation and restoration work is nearing completion, adding that contributing to the legacy of such a great leader has been a deeply fulfilling experience.
Visitors have praised the museum exhibits for offering a comprehensive account of Netaji’s life, from his early years and education to his leadership of the Indian National Army (INA). Rare photographs, personal belongings, and detailed descriptions have been carefully preserved and displayed.
Adding to the celebrations, the State Lalit Kala Academy will organise a painting camp at the venue.
Official programmes at Netaji’s birthplace and the cultural building will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., during which entry will be restricted to invited guests. The premises will be opened to the general public after the completion of the official events.
