A fire broke out at the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, on Monday afternoon, sending plumes of smoke into the sky and causing panic among devotees.
The blaze erupted above the Shankh Dwar and CCTV control room, where batteries were stored. Officials reported that the Pollution Control Board’s Air Quality Monitoring System was completely destroyed.
Authorities temporarily halted temple darshan, but after fire brigade teams brought the blaze under control within 20 minutes, operations resumed. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. Investigations are underway to determine the exact cause, though overheated batteries are suspected to have triggered the fire.
Officials, including Collector Roshan Kumar and SP Pradeep Sharma, reached the site to assess the situation. The Mahakal Temple Committee has assured that safety measures will be reinforced to prevent similar incidents in the future.
