The United Arab Emirates has temporarily closed all beaches and coastal areas in Umm Al Quwain after a tanker oil spill impacted the emirate’s coastline. The announcement was made on Friday by the country’s Ministry of Climate Change and Environment.
Monitoring Systems and Public Safety
According to the ministry, its environmental monitoring systems successfully detected the spill. Ahead of the official announcement, residents across Sharjah, Ajman, and Umm Al Quwain had reported noticing unpleasant odours drifting from the coast. However, the ministry reassured the public that these odours did not pose any health risks.
Ongoing Assessments and Closure Duration
All beaches and coastal areas in Umm Al Quwain will remain strictly off-limits until technical assessment teams complete their evaluations and determine the necessary safety measures to safeguard the local marine environment.
Active survey operations are currently underway as a precautionary measure to monitor the situation closely and protect marine life and public safety.
