A tragic motorcycle accident claimed the lives of two youths in Podia village of Malkangiri district early on January 21, 2026.
The incident occurred between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. when the victims were riding a silver Bullet motorcycle from Golaguda towards Podia.
According to local sources, the riders lost balance near the turning close to Kumhar Sahi, just before entering Podia village. The motorcycle rammed into a roadside tree, killing both men instantly at the spot. Residents of nearby houses discovered the accident in the morning and immediately informed the villagers and families.
Police reached the site, recovered the bodies, and began an investigation into the accident. The sudden deaths cast a shadow of grief across the region.
The deceased were identified as Deepak Kumar Lima, 28, son of Dillip Kumar Lima of Podia, and Sameer Hontal, 29, son of Brunda Hontal. Deepak’s family faces additional heartbreak as his sister’s wedding was scheduled just three days later. His father, Dillip Kumar Lima, has been devastated by the loss.
Police registered a case at Podia police station and sent the bodies for post-mortem to Kalimela Community Health Centre. After the examination, the bodies will be handed over to the families.
