In a disturbing resurgence of Maoist violence, two villagers were reportedly killed by Maoist insurgents in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district.

The brutal incident, confirmed by police on Sunday, took place in the villages of Sendrabor and Aempur, under the Pamed police station jurisdiction.

According to the official statement, the victims—believed to be innocent civilians—were murdered by Maoists under yet unknown circumstances. Authorities are currently verifying the full details surrounding the crime, including the motive and timeline.

This tragic act of violence comes just hours ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s scheduled two-day visit to Chhattisgarh. He is set to arrive in Raipur this afternoon, intensifying political and security focus on the insurgency-hit region.

This latest attack follows a similar chilling incident on June 17, when three individuals, including a 13-year-old boy, were strangled with a rope in Peddakorma village. Two of the victims were relatives of former Maoist commander Dinesh Modiyam, who had surrendered to police earlier this year.

The back-to-back killings underscore the persistent volatility in Bastar and adjoining regions, heightening the challenge for security forces and policymakers aiming to establish peace in India’s Red Corridor.
